Welcome to My Blog — Finding Purpose Through Recovery
Hello, and welcome to my blog. I’m not really sure if anyone is going to stumble their way into my viewing my blog but this is going to be more like a diary of my life currently. However, I’m glad you’ve found your way here — whether by…
My name’s Jordan, and I’ve decided to start this blog from a place I never expected to be: a hospital bed. I’m currently recovering from a serious illness called infective endocarditis, an infection of the heart’s inner lining that’s caused a lot more damage than I ever imagined. It’s already taken out two of my heart valves and now, I’m preparing to undergo heart valve replacement surgery. Heavy stuff that you’d never imagine would happen to you, until it does.
I won’t sugar-coat it — this experience has been tough. The days are long, the nights are longer, and there’s a lot of waiting, reflecting, and just… existing. That’s why I decided to start this blog. I needed something to anchor myself. Something to keep my mind active while my body heals. Something that feels like me, beyond the machines, the tests, and the endless stream of medical jargon that I have no clue about and find myself googling as soon as the doctor leaves my room.
This space isn’t going to be all doom and gloom, though. Sure, I’ll be writing honestly about my experience with endocarditis, surgery, recovery, and everything in between — but I also want to use it as a space to share the little things that make each day a bit more bearable. Maybe that’s music I’m listening to, thoughts I’ve had at 3am, random observations, or anything else that helps me stay connected to life outside these hospital walls. I’ll most likely end up writing about my tamagotchi and logging their life and progression while my own life is put on hold for now.
If you’re reading this, thank you. Whether you’re going through something similar, know someone who is, or are just curious — you’re welcome here. Hopefully, in sharing a bit of what I am going through, I can feel a little more connected to yours and provide some comfort or hopefully help in some way.
One step (and one heartbeat) at a time.
